Because we have been taught to hate the dark and anything considered “blackness” loving a black woman is considered a revolution. Loving myself is a revolution! You can’t get any better than that. (via pearly-pearl)

I wonder why I continue to stand for white women’s rights when they consistently trample all over mine as a woman of color.

Queer black people exist, right? Muslim women do too, correct? GSM black people have straight black family members, colleagues and friends? They live amongst them day in and day out. Alternatively, Muslim women interact with their male counterparts quite often, more than you ever will. If you’re so concerned with homophobia amongst black people or misogyny in Muslim societies, you’d listen to the very people who live, eat and exist everyday within the aforementioned communities and will face such prejudices, no? Instead of trying to reach your own narrow conclusion. You can’t pull up statistics from any given article and expect a thorough, non-biased, all encompassing analysis of LBGQT and gender related issues for any demographic, especially not a stigmatized one. Printed word will never trump lived experience or a firsthand account. Why try to speak for these communities that you will never understand or be a part of? My art history professor’s response to and smackdown of a neoimperialism apologist white “activist” classmate that worked for the Prop 8 campaign and defended the demonization of the black community.
